Pranayama is a practice of breath control in yoga that involves various breathing techniques and exercises to regulate the flow of energy or prana (also know as Qi, or life force energy) in the body. The practice of pranayama has been shown to have a significant impact on mental and physical health and well-being. Pranayama plays a role in calming the nervous system, relaxing the body, and quieting the mind. Those with chronic pain or health issues will find great benefits in the practice of pranayama. Pranayama is also an excellent practice in deepening meditation.

Yoga therapy is a mind-body practice that focuses on the physical, emotional, and mental health. Yoga says that mind, body, and spirit are one and cannot be clearly separated. More recently, western medicine is finding that emotional states can be located or trapped in the physical body. Yoga therapy is a practice that approaches healing from exactly that perspective. It is a practice that uses gentle yoga poses, meditation, relaxation, and breathing exercises to help relax the mind, release the body, and relieve stress. Yoga therapy is a gentle yet powerful practice that guides us into the realm of ‘know thyself’ by revealing both the connection between mind and body, while simultaneously teaching us to acknowledge and release trapped physical, mental, and emotional stressors, bringing healing on all levels.
Kriya yoga is the study and practice of the energetic body. A sound bath is a beautiful full-body meditative experience where we lie down and listen to resonant sounds. It is a deeply relaxing experience using multiple sound instruments including crystal singing bowls, Tibetan metal bowls, chimes, a gong, and more, to create a vibrational sound that 'bathes' our bodies and invites deep rest and relaxation. In ancient cultures, sound baths are used as a form of sound healing for both the physical body and mental realm.
Mantra Chanting is a form of meditation as well as sound healing. Using various mantras such as Om, chanted 108 times, can bring forward a deep silence that comes from within. Mantra chanting is an excellent form of meditation as it gives the mind something to anchor in — that is, a mantra. If you have trouble with a wandering mind in meditation, mantra chanting may be the practice for you.
”Practice without theory is blind, but theory without practice is mere intellectual play.” - Immanuel Kant
Yoga is a wholistic practice that includes the mind, body, and spirit. Yoga philosophy teaches that yoga has 8 limbs, one of which is the yoga poses, another is meditation, another is ethical living, and more. All of these come together to serve one purpose: Self-realization. That is, living in physical, mental and spiritual peace and harmony, anchored in the Self — anchored in the truth of who you are. In the yoga philosophy classes, we study these topics, found in ancient literature (from the vedas to the sutras and more), which teaches the true purpose and practice of yoga: to still the mind, to release the ego, and attain a state of being of sustained peaceful bliss. It is attainable by anyone, so long as they choose it. Everything you need is already within you. Seek and you shall find.
The Buddha said, “Peace comes from within. Do not seek without.” This course teaches this path, what it entails, how to pursue this path, and how to maintain this path.
